What is NutriSkill?

Healthy Eating and Physical Activity Interventions

Tailored Learning Resources are the experts in healthy eating education, providing Local Government, Health Authorities, Schools and Children’s Centres, as well as Catering Companies and other organisations, with effective ways to impact wellbeing in the community.

In line with government guidelines and age based competences, NutriSkill® interventions enable accurate, progressive, exciting lessons around food choices and activity, which are effective and measurable.

Positive Feedback

NutriSkill interventions are proven to significantly impact children’s knowledge and behaviours in relation to healthy eating, and empower them with the ability to select their own foods and eat a healthy balanced diet;

Children: In pilot studies, children’s knowledge of healthy eating increased by up to 83% during interventions as short as 7 weeks. Children say that the simple, fun nature of NutriSkill motivates them in relation to healthy eating and being physically active

Parents: Parents report that the programme quickly and positively influences their children’s food choices. They indicate that healthier foods are requested, having a direct and positive impact on the shopping, and on the rest of the family

Teachers: Teachers confirm that children try to make better food choices at lunch time, supporting the healthier lunch standards for schools

Supporting Government Targets

By changing children’s attitudes to learning about healthy eating, NutriSkill directly contributes to achievement and retention of
Healthy School Status

By changing children’s behaviours in relation to food choices, NutriSkill addresses the Healthy Weight, Healthy Lives target of reducing the rising overweight and obesity trend in children

NutriSkill targets younger children, in line with the Government Public Service Agreement on Child Health and Wellbeing2007

Measuring the Economic Impact

Tailored Learning Resources aim to have a direct economic impact.

Healthy Weight, Healthy Lives 2008 estimates huge cost savings for the NHS regarding the impact of healthy eating, and according to the NICE obesity guidance ‘combined healthy eating and physical activity interventions may help prevent children from becoming overweight’.

The Healthy Schools Programme and The School Food Trust say that healthier children achieve better results. They are likely to contribute more to the economy throughout their lives and are less likely to be a drain on NHS resources.

For these reasons, community wide initiatives based on the principles engendered in NutriSkill can have a significant and objective impact on the economy.
